What is grassroutz?

Word-of-mouth reviews and referrals are simply a way of life.

grassroutz is a word-of-mouth social network to find service provider recommendations.

You can Add your own reviews and recommend service providers - locally or internationally, Invite friends to join your network to share your recommendations with them, and as they start adding their own reviews and recommendations, you can Find service providers recommended by them.

grassroutz makes it easy to find reliable service providers - locally or internationally - from an Attorney in Arkansas to a Zamboni driver in Zimbabwe! The fact that these service providers are recommended by your trusted friends and their friends makes all the difference!
Why should I use grassroutz? WIIFM - "What's In It For Me"?
1) We built the grassroutz network with a lofty long-term goal in mind - to make our lives easier by reducing the stresses and risks related to finding reliable service providers in your area or across the world.

Think of all the times a friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker has asked you for the name of a service provider, or you asked them for one. The grassroutz community simply makes this process easier for you.

When you find a service provider and read the reviews entered by users, grassroutz automatically determines the degree of relationship between you and the reviewer, which basically determines the level of trust you can place in the review. It's a matter of trust! You trust the opinions of the people you know much more than reviews from unknown sources, and grassroutz is the only site known to provide this most important differentiating capability.

What is the plan for the next release?
We are constantly enhancing grassroutz with many value-added capabilities. We typically email users a monthly newsletter with updates on all the newly added features. If you are not receiving these updates then most likely you declined to receive email notifications from us when you registered. If you would like to receive updates, please update your Account Settings using My Settings and check "Send me email notification" option.
Will my data be preserved as you release new versions?
Absolutely! As we add new features to increase the value of grassroutz for our users, we will employ all effort to ensure that your data is preserved.

We already have data backup and data migration procedures in place to ensure that your data is safe, secure, and hosted with a reliable data center provider.

Where is the site hosted? Where is the data stored?
There is one thing you can be sure of - this site is not running on a machine in someone's garage or basement!

The site (and the data) is hosted on high-end machines maintained by a leading hosted data center provider. We are using a Premium business-level web hosting service that offers maximal uptime, security, reliability, fast support response times, and access to a wide range of services.

My Account



How do I cancel (unsubscribe) my free grassroutz account?
Oh no! We'll be so sad to see you go! But if you still want to cancel your free grassroutz account, you can do so easily:

1) Go to the Contact Us page
2) Provide us with the email address you used to register with grassroutz
3) Select the Account-related radio button
4) Type Cancel or Unsubscribe in the message body - Your account will be canceled within 48 hours.

If you have decided to leave grassroutz, we would greatly appreciate any comments or feedback regarding your experience, and the reasons for your departure. Also, please let us know if there is anything we can do to keep you on as the valuable grassroutz user you are.

What other account settings can I change?
You can change your Name, Email address, Location information, Password settings, and various Privacy settings. To do this, click on the My Settings link in the green header of the homepage. For legal reasons, you cannot change your grassroutz screen name
How do I change my account settings?
Click on the My Settings link in the green header of the homepage.
When I changed the global privacy settings through My Settings, why did the privacy settings for my existing reviews not change?
When you select the privacy settings from the My Settings popup page, this only sets the default privacy level for any new reviews you will add. It does not change the privacy level for existing reviews. We have done this intentionally so as not to inadvertently override the privacy settings for all of your reviews. Just think of the settings under My Settings as the default settings for your future reviews.

You can, however, change the privacy level for an existing review. To do this:

1) Go to the Homepage
2) Click on my providers, found under browse in the service providers section
3) Find the specific service provider review you wish to modify
4) Click Read Reviews
5) Click Edit
- This will allow you to update any part of the review, including its privacy settings.

Please let us know (via the Feedback Form) if you feel the global privacy change feature should apply to existing reviews as well.



Support / Known website issues



What browser version is grassroutz compatible with?
grassroutz has been tested on Mozilla Firefox version 2.x, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x.

We are aware of several website issues when using Internet Explorer 6.x and we are working to address these in a future release.
Nothing happens when I click the Add Friend button (or the Invitations or Read Reviews buttons).
These pages are popups so the most likely cause is that your current browser settings are not allowing popups to be displayed.

You should change your browser setting options to always allow popups from this adds grassroutz as a safe site. Please also enable javascript. We assure you that we do not allow any popup advertising or spam.
Why can't I see a service provider I just added?
After you have successfully added a service provider, you will receive a popup message "You have successfully added...". When you close this popup message, your list of providers currently displayed on the main page will not automatically be refreshed and hence, you will not see the service provider you have just added. Rest assured the service provider listing you reviewed is there!

To resolve this, click on my providers, found under browse in the service providers section. This will refresh the service provider panel and you will see the new service provider you have just added.

We are currently working on a fix for this issue, which will be released shortly.
I found that some of the date fields are not displayed properly (i.e. data is cut off)
We are aware of this problem, which occurs only on the Mozilla Firefox 2.x browser. We are working to fix this issue in a future release.
How can I notify grassroutz if I think I've encountered an issue?
Please use the Feedback Form to notify us of any issues you encounter.
How do I get help if I'm not clear on how to use some of the features?

How do I change (edit or delete) a review I made?
1) Go to the Homepage
2) Click on my providers, found under browse in the service providers section
3) Find the specific service provider review you want to modify
4) Click on Read Reviews
5) Click on Edit or Delete to update your review data.

Note: The Delete option will delete that specific review, while Edit will allow you to update any part of the review data (e.g. date of service, comments, privacy settings, review comments, and so on).
How do I change the address information for a service provider recommendation that I entered?
Please send us an email using the Feedback Form and let us know the service provider listing for which you want to change the address. We will change it for you. We apologize for this inconvenience, but we will address this issue shortly in a future release.



Privacy and Settings



How does grassroutz protect my privacy?
To find out about how grassroutz treats your valuable information, please read our Privacy Policy.
What personal information is shown on the site?
When you register, you select a grassroutz Screen Name in addition to providing your First and Last Name. By default, your Screen Name and your First and Last Name are displayed to your 1st degree friends. All other users only see your Screen Name by default.

You can change your settings using My settings to control who can see your name. Your Screen Name is always displayed to all other grassroutz users.

Your email address will be used when you invite friends to join your network, so your 1st degree friends will know your email address, but this is not displayed anywhere on the site.

Other registered information (such as date of birth or location) is never displayed nor provided to any other user, including your 1st degree friends.

How can I control who can see what information I enter in grassroutz?
You can change your privacy options to allow friends, everyone, or nobody (complete privacy) to view your name, your service provider reviews, and your list of friends.

Click on My settings and change your settings from the Privacy Options panel.
Why did you ask for my date of birth when I registered?
We require your date of birth for legal reasons, as you must be 18 years of age to use grassroutz. Please read the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.

We never display nor provide your date of birth information to any other user.
Why do you need to know my location?
We only require your location information for the purposes of customizing search results relevant to your geographic area.
